The inventor of the first machine with numerical (program) control (abbr, NC) is John Persons (John T. Parsons), who worked as an engineer in the company of his father Parsons Inc, was producing propellers for helicopters in the end of the Second World War. He first proposed the use of the machine for the treatment of propellers working on the program, input from punched cards (CNC machining).In 1949, the US Air Force funded Parsons Inc for the development of the machine for the contour milling of complex shaped parts of aircraft. However, the company was not able to independently perform the work and asked for help in motor mechanics laboratory at MIT.
Parsons Inc cooperation with MIT lasted until 1950. In the year MIT acquired the company for the production of milling machines Hydro-Tel, and refused to cooperate with Parsons Inc, signed a separate contract with the Air Force to build a milling machine with CNC.
In September 1952, a machine-tool for CNC macining was first shown to the public and about it was published an article in the journal Scientific American. The machine is controlled by a punched tape.
The first CNC machine are particularly complex and could not be used in a production environment. The first serial device with CNC was created by Bendix Corp. in 1954 and the following year was installed on the machines. The widespread introduction of CNC machine tools has been slow. Entrepreneurs distrusted the new equipment for CNC machining. US Department of Defense was forced to make at his own expense 120 CNC machines to pass them out to private companies.
In 1969, the Swiss firm Agie introduced the first CNC machine for electric pulse treatment with unprofiled electrode.

CNC machining in USSR
The development of computer technology led to the creation of machine tools with program management. In the Soviet Union it produces a large number of types of CNC machine tools – 16A20 (“Red Proletarian”, Moscow) 16B16 (Kuibyshev), LA155 (Leningrad), and others. CNC machines occupied a niche between the universal and modular machine tools in the production of a large range of products (provided by a library processing programs) with respect to small quantities (tens and hundreds of pieces). Short changeover times and high repeatability CNC machining on CNC machines allowed to a sharp increase in yield of parts in multistage treatment. CNC base system in the USSR was NC-31 and 2R22 (turning group) and 2S42 and 2R32 (milling group).
Today the leading producing countries of CNC machine tools are China, Taiwan, USA, Spain, Italy, Japan and Germany.
